My Lord,

I have the honour to inform Your

Lordship that Sir Frederick Lugard left the Colony on

leave of absence at daylight this morning and that I have

assumed the Government.

On the 28th. instant the Chinese

Community presented Sir F. Lugard with an address and I

forward an account of the ceremony which appeared in the

local Press. I also enclose articles from the 4 English

newspapers, which show how much Sir Frederick Lugard's

work has been appreciated and in what esteem and regard he

is held by the Community.
